Important Information – Season Cancelled

The KSAC committee met this afternoon and has made the decision to cancel the remainder of the
2019-20 season as a preventative measure relating to the current spread of the COVID-19 virus. This
includes the cancellation of the club championships and presentation day.

This decision has been made based on what we currently know about COVID-19 and also the
uncertainty that Australia faces over the coming weeks and months.

We are very disappointed that this has so unceremoniously spelt the end to our season without the
club championships, but it is for the best and is in the interest of not only the health and safety of
our members but also our greater community.

The next couple of weeks is a critical time for us all to practice social distancing to flatten the COVID-
19 infection curve and allow the health services to cope. Everyone plays a role as individuals and the
club has a social responsibility to do the right thing by our community at a larger scale.
Some key points include:

  • We have no control over how many members attend our meets. Although unlikely, if our
    full membership were to attend with parents/guardians we would exceed 500 people on
    the ground and therefore exceed the government restrictions on large gatherings.
  • Regardless of the 500 figure we are still a large group which draws on a significant
    geographical area. Our club has the potential to impact upon up to a dozen school, 100’s of
    families and businesses if we have a confirmed case attend. This would include people who
    work in the health services (who are in a critical role at this time) and most importantly
    those who are at a high risk of becoming seriously ill if they are infected with the virus.
  • While not a contact sport the operation of the club has way too many touch points to
    manage effectively. These include but are not limited to handling of throwing implements,
    children standing in lines together, carrying of drink bottles, handling of finish line place
    tokens and our finish line volunteers processing results in close proximity to every athlete.
    While mitigation measures could be implemented the exposure would remain significant.

There will be further correspondence regarding the close out of the season, including arrangements
for the collection of season participation and point score awards.

2019-2020 Volunteer Roster

Each family will be required to volunteer at least once during the season. Please click HERE to nominate a date (or multiple dates) you can volunteer – get in fast so you don’t miss out! This is vital for our growing club to ensure the nights are run as efficiently and smoothly as possible. All roles are very easy – they range from general event assistance, helping in the canteen, to cooking the bbq, and setting up/packing up the field. You will be guided on the night. If you require more information please don’t hesitate to enquire.


Athletics Starts at 5:45pm sharp  – Don’t be late.

Athletics will be commencing on Monday 14th Oct 2019.

Kotara South Amateur Athletic Club began in 1965. We are an athletics centre open to both junior and senior participation, having over 300 athletes ranging from under 6’s through to Masters.

We are located at Nesbitt Park, Grayson Avenue, Kotara South.

Our season commences in early October and finishes mid-March. Athletes must be born on or before the 31st December 2014 to register with us. There is no upper age limit and our athletes have ranged in ability from beginners to Australian representatives.

Our track is considered to be one of the best grass tracks in the Hunter Lake Macquarie Area.

Our primary aim is to bring together athletes and their families in a range of outdoor physical activities with family involvement. At least 1 parent per family is required to actively assist each week.

Emphasis is on ‘Run For Fun’ and improvement of an athletes’’ own performances. The club provides a variety of events and also the opportunity to compete in Athletics NSW, Athletics Australia and Little Athletics competitions.
